Three years ago, Eyesore Cinema rose from the ashes of the great Queen W. fire of Feb. 2008. In that time, we have been working diligently to restore dignity and significance to a flagging industry. In an attempt to consolidate the power of thousands of independently owned and operated video stores across the continent and worldwide, we created a Facebook group to promote the idea of a VIDEO STORE DAY. After three years and 500 stores later we have collectively decided to declare October 15, 2011 as the first official International Independent Video Store Day - after all, why should record stores have all the fun?!
There are still thousands of independently owned video rental stores operating currently. Independent owners from Canada, the U.S. and our International friends have also assisted tremendously in creating the groundswell required to make this day happen and will be celebrating with us as independently owned video stores across the world act together, unified in purpose to take a stand and to celebrate the rich history and promising future of home video!
“Video Store Day” will be celebrated and observed the third Saturday of October each year. This day will bring together film fans, Directors, actors, producers, screen writers, distributors, labels and anyone in the home entertainment film industry who has a vested interest in working together to promote this industry from the bottom up!
The group desires to make “International Independent Video Store Day” a world wide event. We encourage and welcome any independent video store owners to join and participate. Each Province and State is represented by a designated shop in each area.
In Ontario, Video Store Day is proudly represented by Toronto's own EYESORE CINEMA, the store that has founded and spearheaded this event. That's right, Video Store Day is another great Canadian invention!
